Let the Celebrations Begin!

Tomorrow is my birthday! At midnight tonight, I will finally be twenty one years old! My last truly momentous birthday is ever so close and I am excited. Sure, one might argue that it is not a terribly big deal.... But I am willing to take it as an excuse to have fun!

Birthday wishes have been pouring in all week and I have an action packed weekend planned. My bestest friend Dawn just took me out for china buffet. Woohoo! Tomorrow night I am getting all dolled up for Hibachi, sushi, and drinks with Eric. Then Sunday I am going out for mexican and margaritas with at least a dozen friends from work.

So what I have to ask of you is... How can I make this whole month an awesome celebration of my birthday? Want to take me out? Know a good bar I should hit? Have a drink I absolutely must try? Then let me know! Help me learn the ins and out of being a truly legal adult and share in my delight! It will be a blast I promise!

Birthday Huggles!!!!!

Frozen Thought Crystals

It irks me that I have to be in class today. It is negative 5 degrees outside but the university proclaims that we are adults and should be able to handle it. Shouldn't they know better? College students are not adults! We are creatures of comfort and questionable decision making! I have seen peers walking around in shorts in weather only slightly warmer then this. I should totally still be in bed right now. Then the university claims that we pay for this service and they don't want to deprive us of it, even for a day. I am pretty sure that most students would pay to have class cancelled today for pete's sake! Granted, if I was less dedicated, I could have just skipped class like I did yesterday... But I was seriously coming down with something and needed that 16 hours of sleep. *fondly remembers yesterday's 15 hours of warm, snuggly sleep*

Anyhow... I am just glad that my weekend of working outside in this are over for the moment. Oh the joys of working in a zoo in Ohio in the winter! The weekend before last I squeegeed water for two hours after hosing to try to prevent the formation of ice. Last weekend I ceaselessly broke ice out of water bowls while trying not to freeze my fingers to anything. I worry about the animals as this cold snap continues... It is lucky that they are tougher then I am. Cold is my weakness.

On a tangent, if I hear one more remark about "So much for that global warming bullshit", I will snap and go on a sarcastic rampage! It only exposes how ignorant one is if they assume that global warming implies simply that things are getting uniformly warmer. But perhaps the fault lies more with the educators and less with the uneducated. If the information isn't presented clear and concisely then who can expect others to understand it. It disappoints me however to see those in my field that I know are smarter then that dismiss it as such. Perhaps a less misleading term for it would be global climate change. That is more indicative of the scattered increases and decreases of the average local temperatures across the world that add up to an average global increase. The long story short is that there is no doubt that the overall temperature is increasing, the only controversial part now should be as to the cause of it... But the data for that is pretty compelling towards a large effect from our species as well. It is a complicated issue that is hard to grasp because it is huge and it seems to be the scientific controversy of the century. I for one, would rather assume it to be true and brace for the worst then to ignore it only to find out later that we right after all and have fucked things up even more royally. But that is exactly what the oil companies and their big buddies don't want you to think.

Sigh, in the meantime, stay warm everyone! And to help with that I am sending you all huggles!
