Plans
It's funny how lost I am without the structure of a school schedule hemming in both ends of my year. Without those little bookends, I am practically incapable of committing to anything in the semi distant future. It all seems too abstract! I am planning on being in DC, living at my present location, and working in Membership, until at least April. Though given that Jess may be out of town longer, I might stay through early May. I was toying with the idea of coming home in mid-April and bumming around until I leave for Ecuador, but the more I think about it, the more I think I should stay here and make money. I have also been toying with the idea of attempting to stay in Ecuador longer than my currently planned two weeks. I was going to contact conservation organizations in the area and ask for an internship. However, another opportunity has popped up. Friends of the National Zoo runs a summer camp at their Conservation and Research Center in Virginia every July-August. My boss has offered me a supervisory position at the camp starting in late June. I would oversee the camp, act as a liaison with the scientists on site, and work with the kids. I would live at the camp in the beautiful rolling blue mountains of Virginia. I am very excited and am very seriously thinking about accepting the offer. But I still hesitate at confirming plans for several months away. At that point in the year, I will have been in DC for a full year, will have briefly moved home, will have traveled out of the country for a few weeks, and will have no idea where I am living when I get back. The more I think about it though, the more perfect the position seems to be.
In other news, I am coming home for the weekend of my birthday. It will be an action packed few days. Complete with fighting, a meeting with someone I will be working with in Ecuador, a birthday dinner with at least one friend, perhaps a tattoo, reuniting with my long lost cats, quality time with the family, and other socializations and birthday festivities I am sure. I am excited! Want to be a part of the whirlwind events? Let me know!
Huggles!
