Checking In
Heya friends!
Just checking in to let you all know that I am alive. Things are going well. I am renting a room in Silver Springs just outside DC. It isn't quite as cool as having my own apartment, but my wallet appreciates it a lot more. I am getting the hang of public transport. It takes a 5-10 minute walk to the bus stop, a 10-15 minute bus ride to the metro-rail and a 30-35 minute metro ride into town to get to work. It is actually fairly easy, things have gone smoothly so far. I am walking a lot, hopefully I can get into better shape by the end of the summer. And everything is so much greener and lush down here! It is beautiful. =)
Work is going well. My co-workers seem like a cool bunch of people and I cannot wait to get to know them better. I am trying not to be overwhelmed with all of the information I am being thrown. My supervisor leaves for two weeks in Brazil on Wednesday so has to get me mostly brought up to speed before she leaves. Then as soon as she gets back, the tamarins get a final exam and will be released into the exhibit. It is going to be one crazy month! In the meantime, I have to set up the exhibit, become familiar with the animals, learn the routine in the small mammal house, get TB tested, get rabies vaccinated, get fingerprinted and background checked, and get ready to supervise 150 volunteers once the monkeys are out. Bwah! I love it. =)
I am sitting in Starbucks just down the street from the house right now. I bought a wireless router to hook up with the land lord's connection but we cannot seem to get it to work. *pout* So in the mean time I forked over $10 to use Starbucks wireless for the day. I was starting to go into withdrawal! *tick tick*
I just cannot believe how much my life has changed in the past few months... I turned 21, got my drivers liscence, got a new job, moved to DC, graduated college, got my first cell phone, left my family, friends, and everything familiar! And I am managing quite well considering... I feel like I have been propelled into the adult world at break neck speed, let's hope that when I finally land I can keep my feet under me.
Anyhow, I miss you all terribly. I finally got a cell phone, so if any of you want to give me a call, email me or drop me a line on myspace and I will let you know what my digits are.
Well, I am off to do some grocery shopping and then catch a bus to the laundromat.
Huggles!
