Spring time! Sun shine!

I love wireless internet! I am sitting on my front porch right now keeping my parents company while they run a garage sale. I am amazed at the prices people will pay for old junk. But it is lovely out here and I can just as easily apartment hunt from this scenic location as any.

I had a wonderful evening last night. It was the first time I felt relaxed in over a week. Eric treated me to lovely pasta, wine, and tira misu at Olive Garden. We had the most interesting waiter ever! It was a lovely time. We followed it up by two hours at Wingz hanging out with Grant and Mel (for the little time she was there). I had a blast! I flicked a bottle cap into a shot glass with perfect aim. I was highly impressed. I am going to miss Thursday night Kareoke... I then drove Eric and myself to the midnight showing of Spiderman 3, which I enjoyed very much! I love midnight showings, there is always such great energy coming from all the people. And the movie itself was pretty good, overdone in a few places... but good!

Well anyhow... off to email and call more apartments. I will be able to relax and enjoy my adventure once I know where I am living. Until then, I will try to refrain from pulling out my hair.

I'm a Winner!

Check it out! This is the poster that I presented about my honors thesis at the symposium tonight. I am rather proud of it!
Especially proud of it because I apparently won 2nd place out of the 20 papers there! I got a really cool hat, $100 for the campus bookstore, and a neato plaque! I really didn't expect it. I threw together a poster, babbled about my research, and won! =) Life is so good right now.

Happy huggles!

Bwah!

I am a bundle of nerves today! I cannot seem to concentrate on anything. My stomach is tied in knots. All I really want to do is curl up in someone's arms and pass out, or beat something, I'm not sure. I am really stressed about finding an apartment. DC is a very expensive area and a lot of the apartments I am seeing won't take anything less then a year lease. And since I have no sense of the area, I am having trouble determining whether things are really close enough to the zoo or not. I need help!

And to make matters better, I have to give a poster presentation on my honors thesis at a symposium in an hour. It's not for a grade or anything, but I am worried that I will sound like a bumbling idiot. Or if nothing else, a stressed hysterical psychopath. Lol! Add to that a 15 page paper due tomorrow, I'm studying for a final that I take tomorrow morning, working on a 7 page paper due next week, plus one more final that I can't find all my notes for.... And Bwah!

*breathe* *breathe*
I need to relax. Bottom line though, I am still thrilled. This is going to be quite a summer!

Stunned

I have amazing news! I got the internship at the National Zoo. I am still numb from the news, I can't believe I got it! They want me there by the 20th so I have to find a place to live and get out there in 2 weeks. I am shocked, terrified, and sooo excited! I will miss everyone, I fully expect people to visit me or it will be a very lonely 6 months. It will be easier since Dawn is planning on moving with me for the summer and then we will go from there.

I will be coordinating the Golden Lion Tamarin Free Range Program. This means setting up the exhibit, overseeing the release of the radio collared family of 6 into the zoo, overseeing volunteers who will do daily behavioral research, and weekly write ups about the tamarins' activities. I will also be working in the small mammal house and possibly other areas of the zoo. This is a famous program and I am stunned that I will get to be a part of it. I am in disbelief that I managed to snag such a highly competitive position.

Eeeeeeeee! I am so excited! Off to look for an apartment.
